Welcome to the Wabash College Writing Center! We are excited to have you on our campus!
I am Prof. Zachery Koppelmann, the Director of the Writing Center, and let me tell you about us.
We were founded in the Fall of 1983 by Julia Rosenberg, the Writing Center has moved around campus many times, but we are now in the Lilly Library, the de facto student center for campus. We recently added a satellite location in the Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies, and we are looking forward to a second satellite location in our new Latino Community Center.
We have one goal: help Wabash men (Wabash College is all-male) become the best writers that they can be. To accomplish this goal, we follow a simple philosophy, provide a semester-long course for all Writing Consultants, offer a relaxed space, and focus on each writer’s questions.
In general, we run a relaxed Center. There is no front desk or reception area. The Writing Consultants grab a table and meet with writers. My office is adjacent to the Center, but most of the sessions are in the evening, so Writing Consultants have a great deal of freedom.
Our scheduling system was built in-house and is connected to the Registrar’s Office, so we can run detailed analysis of trends and needs.
Over the past few years, we have expanded our Writing Fellows Program to further support the writing needs of Wabash men.
After a very strange debate with Writing Consultants while returning from a ECWCA 2019 at the University of Dayton, we “adopted” a platypus: Walcott Wadsworth, Esq. He started as our schedule coordinator, but was recently promoted to run our AI-powered commenting bot. He is currently in training to add an AI-powered brainstorming bot.
We invite you to talk with our staff, explore campus (please avoid the construction), grab a coffee at the 1832 Brew, check out our space, and, of course, attend the outstanding sessions our peers have diligently prepared.
